On 9 April, Ambassador Chao Xiaoliang visited the construction sites of China-aid Projects for the Pacific Games to be hosted by Samoa, including Apia Park National Stadium, Aquatic Center and Sports Complex. He talked to the heads of the Chinese companies tasked with these projects and listened to the briefing about the progress and safety measures of these projects.

On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Samoa, Ambassador Chao expressed his sincere appreciation to the technicians and construction workers of the projects. He said that the 16th Pacific Games is the most important major regional sports event that Samoa is going to host this year. The China-aid sports facilities, an epitome of China-Samoa friendship, will be the main venues of this event. The Samoan government and people welcome these projects and have a high expectation of them. The Chinese technicians and workers have braved the hot and humid weather and overcome many difficulties such as heavy workload and constraints of time to ensure the smooth progress of the projects. Ambassador Chao requested the Chinese companies to continue their efficient work with a high sense of responsibility, honor and mission, so that these projects can be delivered in a timely, safe and high-quality manner for the friendship between the Chinese and Samoan people.

The 16th Pacific Games will be held between 7 and 20 July 2019 in Apia. The China-aid sports facilities will be the main venues for events like track and field, tennis, badminton, table tennis, basket ball, volley ball, netball and water sports. The Apia Park Stadium will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.
