Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, on behalf of the Chinese Government, I am happy to hand over the clothing materials and performance props needed for the mass games in the opening and closing ceremonies donated by the Chinese Government to the Samoan Government for the 2019 Pacific Games.
In the opening and closing ceremonies of the Pacific Games to be held in July, thousands of Samoan performers will work together to present spectacular mass games for overseas guests and athletes as well as local Samoan audience. At the request of the Samoan government, a group of Chinese directors was sent to Samoa in January this year and jointly produced the show script with the Samoan side. In March, 38 Samoan directors and performers for the mass games traveled to China’s Hunan Province for one month training. In May, 10 Chinese directors and dance teachers came to Samoa and worked with Samoan directors to coach thousands of Samoan performers for the mass games.
Apart from the mass games, last week, the Chinese government already handed over 87 vehicles, sports equipment and fireworks to the Samoan Government for the 2019 Pacific Games. More than 200 Samoan athletes and 30 chefs are now in China for training. Over 200 Chinese and Samoan engineers and workers have been working day and night for the timely completion of construction and renovation of sports facilities where the Games will be held.
Samoa is China’s good friend and reliable partner in the Pacific. In support of Samoa’s hosting of the Pacific Games, China has been providing assistance and help to the Samoan side within the shortest possible time and within the best of its ability. Thanks to the joint efforts and close coordination of our two sides, all the Pacific Games-related assistance projects have been progressing in a smooth manner.
