The National University of Samoa (NUS) recently announced the establishment of a Chinese Major, with an initial enrollment of more than 10 students. The program will include both specialized Chinese courses and general education courses. The duration of study is three years, and graduates will be awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Samoa in 1975, bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and cultural exchange has been growing steadily. The launch of the Chinese Major at NUS has advanced the educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Samoa to a new stage. It will help more young Samoans learn about China through the Chinese language and culture and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.

On March 2, the launching ceremony of the Chinese Major was held at the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in Samoa. His Excellency Ambassador Fei Mingxing, Honourable Minister of Education and Culture Professor Aiono Alec Ekeroma, Vice Chancellor and President of NUS Tuifuisaa Professor Patila Amosa and students of the Chinese Major attended the event.
